- ABC officially renewed the show on May 12, 2016.
- According to Mireille Enos, season 2 will be all about finding out about the characters' backstory.
- The table read for the premiere took place on August 22, 2016.
- Shooting started on August 29, 2016.
- On January 4, 2017, it was announced that John Simm had been promoted to series regular.
- According to Allan Heinberg, the show will embrace comedy in its second season and cut back on the procedural theme, meaning there will be less featured cases except for the ones that hit close to home for the team.
- According to Jessica Kender's Twitter page, production wrapped on January 23, 2017.
- Production moved to a new sound stage for this season.
- On May 11, 2017, it was announced that the show had been cancelled and season two would be its last. On the cancellation, Channing Dungey, President of the ABC Entertainment Group, explained that the second season's reboot "came too late to get the audience to engage in a meaningful enough way" to bring the show back for a third season.
